Mr Shahz Ahmed graduated from the University of Birmingham with dual degrees in 1997, having obtained an honours bachelor of science degree alongside his medical degree. He completed his relevant training in Ear, Nose and Throat surgery before embarking on 18 months of fellowships spanning South Africa, the United States of America, Germany and Switzerland.

Having quickly established a reputation nationally, he was given the role of consultant at University Hospital Birmingham in 2010. He went on to receive a prestigious PhD for ground-breaking work involving chronic sinus disease in 2013 and his strong academic profile includes 81 research items, 280 citations and over a dozen book chapters.  In 2018 he was appointed as clinical service lead for his department.  Mr Ahmed is director of a Rhinology Fellowship programme in his hospital mentoring senior registrars and young consultants in advanced rhinology and skull base surgery. 

Mr Ahmed is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and is on the specialist register with the General Medical Council. As one of the UK’s leading rhinologists he specialises in all aspects of advanced sinus surgery and nasal surgery for both function and cosmetic results including rhinoplasty, septorhinoplasty and revision surgery.  He has a particular passion for endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgery. 

His work has gained international acclaim, having been featured on multiple news outlets for remarkable outcomes and life-changing procedures. Mr Ahmed performed a world first endoscopic pituitary operation entirely under local anaesthetic to save the sight of an 87 year old man in 2017.  He is a core faculty member on numerous national and international rhinology conferences across the globe and also hosts his own annual international masterclass to train other surgeons.
